Chirps

Support

Something not working, or a bird it keeps getting wrong? Here is how to get hold of us.

Contact

The support address is not set yet. Set SUPPORT_EMAIL in Scripts/build_site.py and SupportContact.address in the app in the same edit, then rebuild this page. Until then this section deliberately says nothing rather than inviting mail to an address that reaches nobody.

If you are writing about a misidentification, it helps enormously to say which species it guessed, which you think it was, and roughly where and when — that is usually enough to work out whether it is the model, the region filter, or a genuinely hard call.

Common things

It is not hearing anything. Chirps needs microphone access — iOS Settings → Chirps → Microphone. Wind noise is the usual other culprit; a hand cupped over the phone helps more than you would expect.

The species look wrong for where I am. Chirps biases identification by region. Check Settings → Country in the app: if it is set to the wrong place, or location access is off and it has guessed, the candidate list will be off with it.

Identification needs no signal. If it has stopped working offline, that is a bug and we would like to hear about it — it is meant to work with the phone in aeroplane mode.

I want my account gone. In the app: Settings → Profile → Delete Account. It is immediate and complete, and it is not reversible. Anything on your phone is untouched by it.

Reporting another birder

In the app, open their profile and tap ⋯ → Report. If someone is making Chirps unpleasant for you, you can also block them from the same menu — blocking ends any friendship, hides you from each other, and is enforced on our server rather than merely hidden in the app.

Privacy

The privacy policy covers what is stored and what is not. The short version: your recordings and your exact location never leave your phone.
